What solar panels and batteries cost in Warragul in 2026

Published 2026 price ranges for solar panels, home batteries, inverters and repairs in Warragul, what moves a quote and which rebates are already counted.

A typical 6 kW rooftop solar system for a Warragul home sits around $5,810 to $6,730 per system fully installed, based on the October 2026 Melbourne averages from the Solar Choice Price Index, and a 10 kWh home battery runs around $7,784 to $8,284 per system installed. Those published figures already include GST and the federal small-scale certificate discount. Your own quote can land above or below them once the provider has seen your roof, switchboard and meter.

This page collects every published range used on this site in one table, then explains what pushes a Warragul quote up or down and how to read two quotes side by side. Every figure is a market average from a named source. No figure here is a price from the provider who will look at your job, because independent local businesses set their own prices after an assessment.

The solar rows come from the Solar Choice Price Index, which surveys installers on its network for a standard offer and a premium offer. Solar Choice says its premium offers come in 20 to 30% above the standard ones because of the dearer panels and inverters, so the low end of each solar band above is the standard average and the high end is the premium average.

The battery rows come from the Solar Choice battery price index. Its low figure is the battery alone, which assumes your home already has a hybrid or battery ready inverter. Its high figure adds a separate inverter so the battery can be AC connected to any existing solar system.

What is already taken off these prices?

Two things are already in the published solar and battery figures:

  1. The federal STC discount. Rooftop solar and eligible batteries create small-scale technology certificates. Installers normally take their value off the price up front, and Solar Choice says its tables include that discount and GST. The certificate value for panels winds back each year until the scheme ends in 2030.
  2. The federal battery discount. The Cheaper Home Batteries Program gives around 30% off the upfront cost of an eligible battery, according to the federal energy department. It is paid through the same certificate system, and the Clean Energy Regulator publishes a factor per kWh that drops every six months, so the discount on a given battery gets smaller with time.

One thing is not in the solar figures: the Victorian Solar Homes panel rebate. If your household qualifies, that rebate comes off the price after the certificate discount, and you pay the retailer the difference. Eligibility, the matching interest-free loan and the order of steps are explained on the solar rebates guide for Warragul homes. Solar Victoria no longer takes applications for its battery loans, so a quote should not show any state battery rebate.

Solar Choice also notes that its battery figures do not normally include meter installation fees or extra costs for difficult installations.

What pushes a Warragul quote above or below the averages?

The published ranges assume a straightforward job. These site details are the usual reasons a real quote moves:

Site detail Why it can change the price
Steep roof pitch More time on safety gear and edge protection, sometimes extra scaffolding
Two storey home Harder access for panels, rails and cable runs
Terracotta or concrete tiles Tiles must be lifted and refitted around each roof hook, which is slower than fixing to corrugated iron
Older switchboard Ceramic fuses or no room for new breakers can mean a board upgrade before solar or a battery goes in
Three phase supply Changes the inverter choice and how the system is balanced across phases
Long cable run to a shed or battery spot More cable, conduit and labour
Shading from trees or hills May call for optimisers or microinverters, which cost more than a single string inverter
Travel to a rural property Some providers price the trip for acreage north of Warragul or in the hills
Network export limit A lower approved export can change the system design (see the AusNet connection guide)

A weatherboard home from the 1960s with a tiled roof and its original switchboard is a different job from a new brick veneer home in a Warragul estate with a modern board and a north facing tin roof. Ask the provider to list any site extras as separate lines so you can see what is base system and what is your house.

What should the installed price include?

For a new solar system, a full quote normally covers:

  • panels, inverter, roof mounting and DC isolators
  • labour, cabling, conduit and the AC connection at the switchboard
  • the network application to AusNet before installation
  • the electrical inspection by an independent licensed inspector and your Certificate of Electrical Safety
  • the certificate paperwork that creates the STC discount
  • commissioning, monitoring setup and a handover of the shutdown procedure

For a battery, add the battery unit, any extra inverter, the mounting location work and any backup circuits you asked for. Detail on sizing a battery and the federal discount rules is on the home battery installation page, and choosing panel numbers and roof layout for a first system is covered on the solar panel installation page.

If you want to compare actual figures for your house rather than averages, you can ask for a solar or battery price for your Warragul address and a local provider will look at the job.

How do I compare two solar quotes fairly?

Put the quotes next to each other and check that each one states the same things:

  1. System size in kW for panels and kWh usable for any battery.
  2. Panel, inverter and battery brand and model, so you can see whether you are comparing a standard tier with a premium tier.
  3. Whether the price is before or after the certificate discount and any Solar Homes rebate.
  4. Which site extras are included (switchboard, tile work, scaffolding, meter changes).
  5. Product warranty and workmanship warranty, written as separate items.
  6. The quote expiry date. Solar Choice says most solar quotes are valid for only 7 to 30 days because equipment costs move.

The cheaper quote is only cheaper if it includes the same work. A longer, line by line list of what each quote should state is on the solar quote checklist.

What does a replacement inverter or repair cost?

An existing system usually needs money spent on the inverter first. Energy Matters gives $1,500 to $3,000 for putting the same type of string inverter back in on a common household system, and $2,500 to $4,500 for moving up to a battery ready hybrid unit. Symptoms of a failing unit, warranty claims and orphaned systems are covered on the solar inverter replacement page.

For a fault, a diagnostic visit is often the first charge. Why Solar puts a health check at $150 to $300 per visit and a faulty DC isolator replacement at $200 to $500.

How long does solar or a battery take to pay back?

There is no honest single payback figure for Warragul. It depends on how much of your solar you use in the house, your retail tariff, your feed-in rate and what you paid. Victoria’s regulated minimum feed-in tariff ended on 1 July 2025 when the ESC stopped setting one, and each retailer now chooses its own rate, which can be low. Solar Choice says the federal battery discount shaved around 3 to 4 years off typical battery payback when it started. Treat any payback figure in a sales pitch as an estimate built on assumptions, and ask to see those assumptions.

Which price red flags should Warragul homeowners watch for?

  • A price well under the low end of the published band with no brand or model named.
  • A quote that shows a state battery rebate, which Solar Victoria has closed.
  • Pressure to sign on the day, or a “today only” discount.
  • No mention of the network application, the electrical inspection or the safety certificate.
  • A single lump sum with no split between product and labour on a battery or inverter job.
  • A payback claim with no tariff or usage figures behind it.

Next step: get a price for your own house

Averages only go so far. For a quote that reflects your roof, put these in the enquiry: your suburb, whether the house is single or two storey, roof material (tile or tin), the age of any existing system and inverter model, your last two power bills if you have them, and a photo of the switchboard. Then request a solar and battery quote for your Warragul home. The quote, the price and the installation all come from an independent local provider, as explained on the about page.

Frequently asked questions

Are the Warragul solar prices on this page what I will actually pay?

They are published market averages, mostly from Melbourne installer data, used as a guide. A provider who inspects your roof, switchboard and meter sets the real figure, and a tiled two storey home with an old board will usually cost more than a simple single storey job on a tin roof.

Is GST included in the published solar and battery ranges?

Yes. Solar Choice says its solar tables and its battery index include GST. The solar figures also have the federal certificate discount already taken off, and the battery figures include the federal battery discount and installation.

Why is there a gap between the low and high battery figure?

The lower figure in each battery band covers only the battery, for houses where a hybrid or battery ready inverter is already fitted. The higher figure adds a separate inverter so the battery can be AC coupled to an existing solar system.

Does a battery quote include a new meter?

Not always. Solar Choice notes that its battery prices do not normally include meter installation fees or the extra cost of a difficult installation, so ask the provider to list any meter or access work as its own line.

How long will a solar quote price hold?

Solar Choice says most solar quotes are valid for 7 to 30 days because equipment costs move. Check the expiry date written on each quote, and ask whether the battery discount figure will be recalculated if installation slips into a later period.
